Growing a first-class list of humor books to satisfy the world’s hunger for literature that makes people smile, giggle and laugh, preferably out-loud.

About Us

Private Garden Press focuses on books that contribute in fundamental ways to building sustainable smiles, giggles and belly laughs in our society. A very private and closely held company, we are based in Carlsbad, one of the beautiful Southern California coastal villages.

Now more than several weeks old, Private Garden Press is a unique publisher formed to produce humor books primarily for the North American market. Our roots are firmly in the soil of the funny, weird and absurd. We first emerged from the back of a conga line, after dropping out of a limbo contest.  Our humor movement is serious medicine to promote a more nonviolent society. We here at Private Garden Press hope our work will grow seeds of smiles and shoots of giggles that will blossom into mature bellows of laughter.

We recognized the need for a publishing house to specialize in humor, and Private Garden Press emerged. Through humor activism, laughter education, and a conscientious effort to get everyone we come in contact with to lighten up, we fully expect our publishing house to flourish.  Of course, we may go broke in the process, but what the heck, it’s just money.

Private Garden Press strives to walk and chew gum at the same time being true to our ideology that there is never a good time not to laugh, except during life-saving surgery… uh, wait, … sorry, the folks at the 4077 did that one already. We do try to be responsible in our approach to humor, and remembering the taste of our mother’s soap in our mouths from just a few years ago, we avoid trashy humor… it’s just too easy, and we have kids hanging around all the time who we have to keep pretending that they don’t know that we know that they know.  Thus, we keep it clean. We like to call it social and environmental responsibility.

We acknowledge the support of our family and friends who for the most part think we are crazy to do this, but tolerate us nevertheless.
